Hitting a Homerun with the Right Niche

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Every successful Internet marketer knows how important it is to choose just the right niche in order to create a successful Internet marketing empire.  After all, you don’t want to just hawk products; you want to establish yourself as an expert.  In order to do this, you must select a niche that you know something about and can talk about with an air of authority.  While there are numerous opportunities to sell or market almost anything you can imagine on the Internet, you’re likely to achieve far greater success if you can involve yourself with something that means something to you in some way.

What do You Care About?

While you don’t have to absolutely love the niche in which you decide to market, if you are passionate about it, that passion will show through in everything you do.  On the other hand, if you don’t have some affinity for your niche and are just trying to sell product, that will surely show through also and will cost you in the end.  So the key is to build your marketing around something that touches you personally in some way.

Start by taking inventory of your own likes and dislikes.  Then dig deeper.  For example, say you are absolutely passionate about dogs.  However, when you do a Google search, you discover that there are more than 200 million websites already in place for dogs.  You realize that you’re unlikely to have your website in the top search results with so much competition already in business so what can you do?  Here is where you start digging.

Dig Deep

What is it about dogs that you like so much?  Is there a certain breed that you feel close to?  Perhaps you’re a dog breeder yourself.  Or maybe your dog has a disease or condition that you’ve had to pay close attention to.  Maybe your dog even requires a special diet.  Once you identify what it is about dogs that you feel passionate about, you’re ready to start narrowing your choices for a niche market.

It works the same way with any subject.  Maybe you like toys.  Plug the word "toys" into Google or any other search engine and you’ll once again be met with millions of webpage results.  Narrow the field, however, and you’ll discover that there is indeed, room for one more.  And it might as well be you.  Just like we drilled down with the subject of dogs, do the same thing with toys.  There are toys for adults and toys for kids.  Electronic games, board games, outside toys, educational toys; the list goes on and on.

What if you’re already marketing a product and now you need to find a niche for it to fit in?  You can do this and many marketers do; however, it is still better to build your marketing empire around something that you already care about.  Still, sometimes we have to start where we are and if you already have products you’re trying to sell, you can still develop a niche around them.  The important thing is to establish yourself as an expert so that others will turn to you for information and products when they are in the market for what you are selling.

Growing Your Online Business

All successful Internet marketers understand that they must be constantly focused on growing their online business. While making passive income is certainly a goal to strive for, it just doesn’t happen overnight and doesn’t happen at all for many Internet marketers. That’s because trends are constantly changing and in order to be successful, you and your site must change with them. For example, you’ve likely heard the term Search Engine Optimization or SEO, which simply means making sure the search engines find your site by optimizing your site so that it ranks as high in the search engine results as possible.  While SEO is important, it certainly isn’t the only aspect of marketing to be concerned with and besides, just because your site is optimized this month, doesn’t mean it will be next month.

Driving traffic to your site or your blog is another phrase every Internet marketer is concerned about, and rightly so. But you must go further than that. What is this "traffic" going to do once they get to your site? Are you targeting your traffic or are you just trying to drive any old traffic to your site? The point is, unless you are working toward driving targeted traffic to your site, you can have a traffic jam on your website and still make no sales. For example, if you are selling specialty dog food and your visitors are looking for dollhouses, how long do you think they will spend at your site? Less than 2 seconds, which is all it takes to click the big red X or press the back button on their browser.

It’s important for you to know who your target audience is before you try to sell to them. Who is your product meant for and how will you find these people? If you’re selling specialty dog food, your target audience is obviously dog owners. Don’t stop there though. What kind of dog do they own? Is this the kind of dog food owners buy to pamper their pooches or is it the kind of dog food their dogs need to eat in order to stay healthy? See what I mean?  You absolutely must know who you are marketing to BEFORE you start marketing. Once you know your target audience, you’ll know where to find them.

Once you find them, treat them like royalty. Over promise and over deliver are two things I always tell people. Always deliver more than you promise and give them more than they ever expect. This is how you keep a customer for life. Competition is keen and if you don’t give your customers what they want, someone else will. Most businesses depend on repeat customers in order to succeed. Give your customers a reason to come back and you’ll build a loyal customer base. Growing an online business takes time, but with a little effort, no, make that a LOT of effort, you can build the online business of your dreams!

I’m Back Blogging… Are You Ready?

Hi Everyone,

Its been over a few awhile since I last consistantly blogged about tips and tricks that I’ve used.

Where have I been? Well to be honest with you, I’ve been concentrating on affiliate marketing through small niche markets, taking care of my baby and back working for a company.

I’ve been working for one of the biggest Retailing Giant, Harvey Norman’s head office in the IT division.

I’m earning a consistant income online but when you have a baby and your wife on maternity leave, I needed to look after my family first.

Concentrating on small niche market has helped me a lot more and really harness my marketing skills to those that haven’t experienced internet marketing tactics and tricks that people have not seen before.

Look for new videos, testing results, useful resources and product reviews that I’ve bought.

Take care everyone keep on striving for greatness.

Mark Joyner Giving Away His Multi Media Course in Blogging

I’ve been missing in action since I’ve been focusing more on building my own network of Blogs, helping out with the house duties and taking care of Baby Ethan.

I’ve been recommending Simpleology for sometime now, I still think its the best course on how to get things done faster and smarter be it running your own business, getting more productive at work or just improve in yourself, its still hands down the best course to do.. plus its free!

I’m evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they’re letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.

It covers:

  • The best blogging techniques.
  • How to get traffic to your blog.
  • How to turn your blog into money.

I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it’s still free.

For those that don’t believe that Mark Joyner is a personal friend of mine, I’ve spent time chatting about business, life and over all well being about yourself with Mark. I’ve even interviewed him about product creation last year.
