Here’s Michael Martine…

When did you first get involved with Internet Marketing/Blogging?

Back in 2000. I’d been doing web design since 1997. In 1999, I started a job teaching computer classes for a private company. I learned a tremendous amount about the web and just tried to keep up with the changes. Pyra Labs had this service called Blogger. I thought it was the most amazing, wonderful thing. I “got” blogging immediately. I knew it was the future. I loved it.

What is your greatest achievement so far?

A project I’m working on right now with Greg Balanko-Dickson, an author and business coach, called Gateway Blogging. It’s a fresh new way to understand how a knowledge/service business can most effectively use a blog to get and keep more customers.

What’s the key behind your site/s?

Everything I think about writing or doing, I ask myself: why the hell would anyone want this? What is remarkable about it? So, I either make it remarkable or I don’t make it.

How is it unique?

My perspective and sensibilities are attuned to business, marketing, and entrepreneurship. I write for business people and entrepreneurs. What’s in my head is my own unique blend and synthesis of some of the best thinking and experience out there from sourced such as Tom Peters, Seth Godin, the Cluetrain Manifesto, Hugh McLeod, Ray Kurtzweil, William Gibson, and others.

What obstacles have you encountered?

I have always been my own biggest obstacle. Any success I have is due to others being better than I am and me trying to get out of my own damn way. That, and people just don’t want to hear about how everything is changing.

What are your Three Top Tips for building an Internet Business?

Network with others, know what you want, persevere.

Did you secure any finances? If so how did you secure it?

No financing. Started with nothing.

Any advice for other start-up Internet Entrepreneurs?

Don’t chase after money. Use your talents to help other people in the unique way that only you can. Money is just a side effect.

Any advice for a traditional business?

The day you realize there is no difference between your IT plan and your business plan is the day your business will have a future.

Your vision of the Web’s Future

The future of the web is when the web itself disappears into everyday life, and we simply have information and know things because we wish it. The web as giant external cortex.

How will you stay ahead of the game?

By paying attention and moving towards my fears.

Who are your personal Heroes?

Anybody who does whatever the hell they want, gets away with it, and gets paid for it.
