Principle 3 - Decide What You Want

Once you have decided why you are here, you have to Decide What do you want to do, be, have.

What do you want to accomplish in life? What do you want to experience? You need to plot your journey by having a timeline and you need to really recognize what success really mean to you.

As a child we were programmed to behave a certain way by our parents.

for example:

Don’t touch that! Stay away from there Keep your hands off that You don’t really feel that way You don’t really want that You should be ashamed of yourself Stop crying. Don’t be such a baby

As you got older you heard…

You can’t have everything you want simply because you want it. Money doesn’t grow on trees Can’t you think of anybody but yourself? Stop being selfish Stop doingwhat you are doing and come do what I want you to do!

Don’t Live Someone Else’s Dreams

After many years of hearing the kinds of words and sentences above. We started believing and living life a certain way and eventually lost the touch with the needs of our bodies and desires of our hearts and somehow got stuck trying to figure out what other people wanted us to do. Instead of focusing on what we really want in life.

I know when I was in high school my parents wanted me to go to college and take certain subjects like Physics, chemistry, Highest Maths classes which I didn’t excel in because I didn’t really want to do it… I was just trying to please my parents and in the end it backfired by me flunking most of my classes.

So how do you reclaim your true desires? How do you get what you truely want with no fear, shame or inhibition? How do you really reconnect wit your real passion?

You start on the smallest level by honouring your preferences in every situation no matter how big or small it is. Don’t think of them as petty. They might be inconsequential to someone else, but they are not to you.

STOP SETTLING FOR LESS THAN WHAT YOU WANT

If you really want to believe that you can get anything you want, you must stop saying harming words that you can embed in your mind like: I don’t know; I don’t care; It doesn’t matter to me; or what the flavor of the month from all teenagers and adults… Whatever. When your confronted with choice, no matter how small or insignificant, act as if you have a preference. Ask yourself if I did know, what would it be? if I did care which would I prefer? If it did matter, what would I rather do? By following what other peoples desires and not yours becomes a habit after consistantly doing it, you have to do the opposite to break that pattern.

Make an “I WANT” List

The easiest way to to begin clarifying what you want is by listing the following:

30 Things you want do 30 Things you want to have 30 Things you want to do before you die

Another technique to unearth you wants is to ask a friend to help you make ” I WANT” list. Have your friend to continually ask you what you want do for 15 minutes and see what you come up with. I actually did this exercise at a Tony Robbins seminar awhile ago. You’ll be amazed with list you come up with.

Is Worrying About Making a Living stopping You?

What often stops people from expressing their true desire is they don’t think they can make a living doing what they love to do.

People like Oprah Winfrey who loves to hang out with people makes a living by talking to people.

Tiger Woods loves to play golf.

Michael Jordan loves playing basketball before he retired.

For now just decide what you would like to do and I’ll update you with the following chapters of the book.

Clarify Your Vision of Your Ideal Life.

To accomplish this, you have to know two things -where you are and where you want to go. Your vision is a detailed description of where you want to get to. It describes in details what your destination looks like and feels like. To create a balanced lifestyle, your vision needs to include the following:

  1. Work and Career
  2. Finances
  3. Recreational and Free Time
  4. Health and Fitness
  5. Relationships
  6. Personal Goals
  7. Contribution to the larger Community

I thought Jack and Janet forgot to add another pillar… I will call it: 8. Spiritual

It doesn’t matter what religion or belief you have to, you need to go through your spiritual journey with the rest of the pillars.

At this stage in the journey, it is necessary to know exactly how you are going to get there. All that is important is that you figure out where there is. If you get really clear on the “WHAT” the “How” will be taken care of.

YOUR INNER GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM

The process of going from where you are is like navigational system with GPS. For the system to work, it needs to know where you are and where you want to go. The navigational system figures out where you want to go and automatically takes you in that direction. When you type in a destination it plots out the fastest way or the perfect course for you. All you have to do is follow the instructions.

Success in life works the same way. All you have to do is decide where you want to go by clarifying your vision, lock in the destination through your goal setting, affirmation, visualisition and start moving in the right direction. Your inner GPS will keep you unfolding your route as you continue to move forward. In lehman’s terms, Once your clear on your goal and stay focus on your vision then the exact steps will reveal itself.

DON’T LET ANYONE TALK YOU OUT OF YOUR VISION

There are people who will try to talk you out of your vision. They will tell you that you are crazy and that it can’t be done… how do I know, well I get from friends and family until this day after I quit my job. They will laugh at you, tease you and criticize you. They call them “Dream Stealers”. DO NOT Listen to them.

I hope you enjoyed my summary.

Have a great week!!!

To your Success,

Carlo Selorio
